Longhope lies about five miles south-south-west of Newent in Gloucestershire's Forest of Dean district, stretching along a wooded valley in the hills between the Severn and the Wye. Its parish church of All Saints has Norman origins, and the parish council owns the summit of nearby May Hill. Local tradition says Charles I stopped at the village's Royal Spring in 1642.
Longhope has a good range of village amenities, including a post office, a convenience store, the Farmers Boy Inn, Hope Brook C of E Primary School, pre-schools and the Latchen Room community hall. The surrounding woods and hills, including May Hill, offer some of the best walking in the area.
