Birdwood is a small settlement on the A40 about five miles south of Newent, in the parish of Churcham in Gloucestershire's Forest of Dean district. It takes its name from a large wood that once covered the area and was gradually cleared and settled as Birdwood Common. The main road through it follows an old Roman route from Gloucester towards Ross, and a lane from its crossroads leads north to Bulley.
The Kings Head pub and a garden centre with a tea room sit along the main road, and Birdwood is only a short drive from both Gloucester and the Forest of Dean.
