Gorsley sits about three miles west of Newent and straddles the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire border, with its main part in the parish of Gorsley and Kilcot. The village grew up on an old common, and its local limestone, known as Gorsley stone, was quarried for many Victorian buildings. Today it has Christ Church, a Baptist chapel dating from 1852, and Junction 3 of the M50.
Gorsley is well served for a rural village, with its own post office, the Orchard Coffee House, the Roadmaker Inn, a farm shop and Gorsley Goffs Primary School. Gorsley Village Hall on Quarry Lane hosts local clubs and events, and a couple of campsites make the village a handy base for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.
